Probably Not The Best Idea To Say Roy Halladay "Got What He Deserved" On The Radio...Or Anywhere

SI – The sports world was, for the most part, crushed by the sudden passing of Roy Halladay, who died Tuesday in a plane crash in the Gulf of Mexico. Former teammates, coaches, journalists and fans alike paid tribute to the former pitching star, who left behind a wife and two children. Two Boston sports radio show hosts, however, essentially mocked Halladay’s death and went as far as saying he got what he deserved. Michael Felger and Tony Massarotti, who host a show on Boston’s 98.5 SportsHub, made plane crash noises, derided Halladay for being “cavalier” about life and said they had no sympathy for him. Here’s are some of the worst moments from the segment, per Awful Announcing’s Andrew Bucholtz. (All quotes are Felger’s unless otherwise specified.)

HOT TAKE, COMING THROUGH! Like, really, pal? My entire thought process revolves around things I think, and then wonder if they’re OK to say out loud. 99% of the time I keep my trap shut, but even when I do spew out nonsense I’m in the wrong. There is NO excuse for these comments. None. Even if you think it, what’s the point of saying it while Halladay’s body is still warm? Jesus Christ, man. Have some respect for his family and humanity, one time.

And I understand what he was trying to say, even though the delivery was beyond piss poor. Anyone who willingly puts themselves at risk in dangerous situations should understand the consequences. Flying that plane straight out of Toy Story is no different than skydiving, base jumping, or a spear-less night in Zah’s hometown. There’s always a chance of the worse case scenario. But to say Roy Halladay, or anyone taking on a thrilling activity deserves to die is either an idiot or an asshole. Probably both.

Regardless, it’s still a tragedy and a young man, husband, father, and icon to many is gone way too soon. Maybe hold back the hot takes

PS – Everyone should probably take a deep breath. Christ.
